Nothing to fear in the Courtroom
I recently went to court with a client. She was nervous and scared out of her mind. She was practically shaking. As a lawyer, this is obviously difficult for me to understand. The courtroom is my second home. I’m there often, know the staff, procedures and protocol. Most of the time, I even know the judge. I have to step aside for a moment and realize that for many of the litigants, it’s the first time for them. They don’t know what’s going on or what to expect. But this is why you hire a lawyer. A lawyer is there for you. Your attorney speaks for you. You can depend on your attorney to do the talking, check you in and argue your case for you. There really is no need to be afraid. The people sitting before you are just as human as you are. They bleed the same way, breathe the same air and put their pants on the same way you do. They are not Gods on a pedestal. Yes, they deserve respect and common courtesies and a certain decorum and behavior is expected. But honestly, we all live human lives and have similar human problems. Your lawyer is there to help you through the process. Trust in your lawyer. Trust that they will get you through the day and in the end you’ll see that your fear was of your own doing.
